We are not alone in this world. Or any world, for that matter. Any time spent reflecting on the beautiful synchronicities in divination, in wild nature or even personal love will dispel thoughts of absolute isolation. We can’t help but be forever connected to something.
In Plato’s Myth of Er this connection rings the loudest (for me) in the mention of the daimon for the soul. I suggest reading the full text for many reasons, cosmic order & the fates make an appearance, but read it if only to see the argument made that we have always been divinely connected. A daimon is a living concept, a connection of our humanity to divinity, a supernatural phenomenon that exists as a soulful double of ourselves and a divine entity on its own.
Some etymology for you:
the word Daimon, though resembling the more common “demon”, is more likely rooted to the Greek δαίω (daio), which translates to divide or distribute.
Cleromancy from klēros ("lot" or "dice") and -manteia ("divination" or "oracle") is a random sortition, the act of casting lots. In modern life, we still practice this sortilege with financial lotteries, drawing straws, throwing dice, etc.
The daimon in the Myth of Er are described as companions to each soul as they reenter this world. The myth is a larger, moral tale that speaks of metempsychosis (transmigration of the soul), divine justice provided upon death based on earthly deeds, the order of the cosmos and of the distribution of fate through the casting of lots. Plato’s story makes two assertions that are relevant here: that the soul is immortal & that each human has a personal daimon. In the myth, after each soul has fulfilled their previous life’s justice (for better or worse), they then choose their next lot & are given a daimon to help bring forth the fulfillment of that choice.
While there are places to find the daimon in astrology, House of Good Spirit/Bad Spirit, House of Good Daimon/Bad Daimon, the Lot of the Daimon/Lot of Spirit itself…(there’s more) I wonder if exploring one’s own astrological chart is an attempt to connect to the daimon directly. If you are interested in astrology or tarot, is that because you were given a daimon that uses this language & that you chose a lot that includes this type of divination? Time will tell.

This new Decan Walk project is one that is heavily saturated with droplets of my bestie/daimon’s clues. If you join the walk this year, in a collective way through a shared decan walk (like this publication) or another group practice, then know that your collective daimons are also congregating. There is loud resonance when we practice divination together and it is because our spirits are also echoing this work as we walk simultaneously with the sun.
