Sky Light: Cancer II
Decan Walk Interview with Teri Nudelman - Amethyst Astro Tarot
Prior to the official start of the decan walk, I sent out a request to my astrological & tarot community to see who wanted to offer their voice on their favorite decan. I am lucky to be able to collaborate with these practitioners in this Decan Walk series.
For this portion, I will have a new astrologer or tarot reader speak on the decan from their perspective. This is for you to be introduced to new astrology & tarot voices and so that you’re not just listening to my voice. A Decan Walk can be a community conversation.
Cancer II/Three of Cups with Teri Nudelman
Practical Astros: How would you briefly describe this decan/tarot card? Do you have keywords or a nickname that you assign to it?
Teri: “Literally, speaking our minds and being driven in a more caring, emotional way...But if we think about what Cancer may represent say our family/tribe say our past, then we may see the impacts of all these in shaping our ideas, in finding our way forward...I find it hard to give a simple keyword as it could be a wide umbrella...”
Practical Astros: What strikes you about this decan/tarot? What do you see its strongest characteristics or powers to be? or What is it that attracts you to it?
Teri: “I think that the 3 of Cups in the Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery deck by Robert M. Place deck reflects the quality of this decan more for me. Power is support and seeing the diversity in others or exploring various shades in ourselves as a strength that could at the same time empower us. In a way it's also reciprocity and collaboration...In case that we talk about the other people, everyone has their own strength and sharing it with others improve all of us and assist us in different ways...I believe that it could also be the case that different colours in our past, in our tribe, in our history may shape how we speak, in what ways we are driven...”
Practical Astros: Does this decan/tarot speak to your natal chart in a particular way?
Teri: “I actually don''t have any placements in the sign of Cancer, and only one placement in a cardinal sign. In this regard, I don't think so that I have any literal connection. However, if I think about any aspect, I have natal Mercury in the 2nd decan of Virgo and natal Uranus in the 2nd decan of Scorpio - maybe that's the connection, how this decan speaks to me...”
Practical Astros: Can you give a specific story where this decan/card played out in your own life? Can you share an example of how this card has come alive for you in an expressive or literal way?
Teri: “I was writing my first article about the nature of Genius and Aretha Franklin. And Franklin has Moon in the 2nd decan of Cancer. Her Moon's main aspect is a lovely trine to Mercury in Pisces. I started thinking how Moon in this decan comes to life for Aretha Franklin. In the end, I felt like there is an embodiment of both decan rulers which are Mercury and Mars respectively (Chaldean and Triplicity). Quoting from my article: "Worth mentioning is the decan of this Cancer Moon: it is in the 2nd decan of Cancer which means that according to Chaldean/Descending and Triplicity orders, the decan rulers are Mercury and Mars respectively. We have the caring, nurturing, emotional way of communicating plus energy and drive – but also the ‘warrior’ added to the equation. Because the Moon in Cancer is in the 9th house, we should not be surprised that her beliefs were embodied in her song lyrics and music – expressing, among other things, her memories of her mother, childhood and past."*

Practical Astros: If you use the tarot card correspondence to this decan, what tarot deck do you typically use to visualize this decan?
Teri: “As I mentioned above, I use the Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery by Robert M. Place.”
Practical Astros: What is your theory or belief of what the decans are, beyond their measurement of 10° movement through the Zodiac?
Teri:“I think that they give an additional meaning to astrological and tarot reading interpretations. I have given the following example in different instances: When Saturn entered into Pisces back in 2023, I drew the 8 of Cups and I found that moment quite powerful as one of the decan rulers of the 1st decan of Pisces is Saturn. So, it makes you think especially when astrology and tarot speak the same thing at the same time. And that's the moment the decans leave the last place in terms of priority in essential dignities (there are places to use this order in traditional astrology and I completely agree with that as well) and take a completely different. It becomes a very important tool of guidance!”
Teri Nudelman has a BA (Hons) in Economics and a master certificate in Banking and Entrepreneurship.
She is a practicing astrologer and tarot reader trained at the Faculty of Astrological Studies and International Tarot Foundation respectively.
