Sky Light: Gemini I
Decan Walk Interview with Jeanine Lineback - IntuitAstro
Prior to the official start of the decan walk, I sent out a request to my astrological community to see who wanted to offer their voice on their favorite decan.
I am lucky to be able collaborate with these astrologers in this Decan Walk series. For this portion, I will have a new astrologer speak on the decan from their perspective. This is for you to be introduced to new astrology & tarot voices and so that you’re not just listening to mine. A Decan Walk can be a community conversation.
Gemini I/Eight of Swords
with Jeanine Lineback - IntuitAstro
Practical Astros: How would you briefly describe this decan/tarot card? Do you have keywords or a nickname that you assign to it?
Jeanine: “One keyword I would assign to this Decan is merry-go-round, where the “Merry” is spun off by the forces of faster and faster motion. The body clings to the bars around them, compelled to the center of the spinning machine. The draw to grasp understanding; unable to let go for fear of losing its grip; It’s control. The spinning of the body and mind that is trapped and can’t let go. The excitement that surges at the sucking in of knowledge, understanding at the same time that that knowledge can take you anywhere.”
Practical Astros: What strikes you about this decan/tarot? What do you see its strongest characteristics or powers to be? or What is it that attracts you to it?
Jeanine: “The decan of Jupiter symbolized in Tarot as the Wheel of Fortune lures me in with it feeling of speed, freedom, the easy collection of everything. The idea that things are drawn into the mind without effort, but only with attention. In the Tarot, the 8 of swords, symbolized by the woman bound and blindfolded with swords surrounding her, compels my attention of the mind that can trap knowledge and hold onto it forever if needed. But then it forgets that it does not control that Wheel of Fortune. At which point will the knowledge overflow and no longer allow clarity? This is where mercury comes in breaking things down, making them smaller so that sense can return. However, there is still that Wheel of Fortune, spinning and spinning round and round the excitement of channeling that knowledge. Not knowing who might hear, where it will land, with what words will it be spoken or written. Who knows? It’s the Wheel of Fortune, the wheel of time.”
Practical Astros: Does this decan/tarot speak to your natal chart in a particular way?
Jeanine: “Yes, I am also struck that this decan in Gemini, where I have Jupiter at 1°55’ corresponds to the placement of my ascendant at 9° Capricorn. This is the first deacon of Capricorn, which is also ruled by Jupiter. Capricorn is an earth sign. It’s energy is grounding. If I can go with the flow of the wheel and allow it to guide me rather than fighting for the control over the wheel, my mind is given over to peace. Allowing the wheel to take me to a hands-on distraction, such as playing my guitar, piano or making something out of wood. Sometimes it’s as simple as lifting my voice in song or writing down my thoughts or speaking into a voice memo. Suddenly, I am in sync with the merry-go-round. I am no longer holding in and sucking up all of the knowledge, instead, I’m sharing it. I’m released from the eight of swords. I’m free and joyful like the two lovers embracing I can revel in the Wheel of Fortune and enjoy the merry-go-round ride”
Practical Astros: Can you give a specific story where this decan/card played out in your own life? Can you share an example of how this card has come alive for you in an expressive or literal way?
Jeanine: “I have often found myself trying so hard to learn about a subject like Astrology or Tarot to the point that I no longer know anything and remember even less. But if I just sit down and read a chart and allow the oracle to come through me rather the trying control the perfection of the words that might by expressed my world becomes clear and with less effort or suffering a choice has occurred seemingly at my hand, but in reality out of my control.”
Practical Astros: If you use the tarot card correspondence to this decan, what tarot deck do you typically use to visualize this decan?
Jeanine: “Rider Waite Smith”
Practical Astros: What is your theory or belief of what the decans are, beyond their measurement of 10° movement through the Zodiac?
Jeanine: “My theory of the decans is that it is a liminal space where we can connect to the archetypes of the signs, planets and houses in Astrology in a more personal yet magical way that can give of a more vivid image of understanding and approach to our situations in this world.”
